Small Tortoiseshell - Aglais urticae

Chris Monks

Warrington, United Kingdom

Artist's Description

This butterfly can turn up almost anywhere, from city centres to mountain tops and as such, it is one of our most successful butterflies. It is most-often seen, however, where nettles grow in abundance hence the urticae part of its name.
It seems to have been a decent year for butterflies with my garden in Warrington, England being a ‘restaurant’ for five different species.
