Taken from the Royal Naval College with a view across the Thames to Canary Wharf on the Graduation Day of Greenwich University.
The College was originally the Royal Hospital for Seamen at Greenwich and was designed by Sir Christopher Wren. Work commenced in 1694 and was completed, after Wren’s death, by Sir Nicholas Hawksmoor in 1742. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Canary Wharf is located on the site of the West India Docks on the Isle of Dogs. Once part of the busiest docks in the world the area was in need of development which began in 1988. The tallest building, One Canada Square, was the tallest in Europe on completion in 1991 and is still the second biggest in the UK.
In Three Hundred Years the styles of Architecture have changed immensely but the cares and thoughts for the future of the young people graduating probably haven’t changed that much
