Lobbes
A view of the town of Lobbes, deep in the south of Belgium.
The most characteristic building in the village is the ancient St-Ursmarus church. It was originally built as the burial chapel of the abbots of the abbey of Lobbes and one of the last remnants of that abbey.
The church is one of the oldest standing structures in Belgium as the nave and one of the transept date back to 9th century. The west tower, choir and crypt are much younger, dating back to the 11th century CE.
(the oldest building in belgium is probably being the ruin of the roman city wall in Tongeren)
