Faith Like a Tomb

This stone beneath me is cold, through layers, through to bone and soul.
But I cannot leave you here.

The sun comes and goes behind clouds, the dust has settled, the ground has hardened.
But I cannot leave you here.

I need nothing, I need no song and no water. I am loyalty, steadfast against angels.
Because I cannot leave you here.

There are trees who would outlive me, and marble would crumble away. Imprints.
But I cannot leave you here.

I’m holding on. I have nowhere to go and nothing that needs doing. Except this.
I cannot leave you here.

What if you get lonely? What if you need me? What if you wondered about how much I loved you.
So I cannot leave you here.

You need a sign, you need what warmth I have left to seep through me there to you.
So I cannot leave you here.

They say I stopped trying. They’ve stopped trying. But they don’t see it. The reasons.
That I cannot leave you here.

I will be as the leaves throughout the seasons. I will become the color of the earth.
But I cannot leave you here.

Everything moves without me. Everything becomes the past. It all washes down my body.
But I cannot leave you here.

Faith like a tomb, nothing left but us here in the silence. I will be silent with you, my love.
And never leave you here.
