Grand Prismatic Pool

Grand Prismatic Pool

Normally you do not get a good view of this pool. I was given a tip to hike up to a near by hill. Doing so enabled me to take this photo. The mist rising from the pool actually took on the color of the pool which you can see on the left side. This is truly one of the highlights of Yellowstone NP.

Thanks Gary. The color was simply amazing there! When the sun is shining, as in this photo, they really do jump out! I have a couple shots while the clouds were passing and there is no comparison.

This is a really great shot Kody. Love the detail of the land and the color of the water and also thye stronger tints of orange …. most pprobably caused by the chems in the water.

    A WOW shot !

  • Kody J Ague replied

You are right, the different colors in the springs and pools of Yellowstone are caused by differing temperatures. The bluest and clearest being the hottest and the yellow, orange, brown being the waters that are cooler in temperature. Still warmer than 80 degrees usually. :) Glad you liked it.

Stunning shot of the Grand Prismatic Pool, including framing, perspective and depth of color! Was the hike up the hill to capture this, a long or quick hike? : )

  • Kody J Ague replied

Super easy hike. It’s not an actual trail but you can clearly see where others have gone to get there. When we were at pool level there were probably 10 photogs up there. When I was there it was my friend and I, and one other guy.
I appreciate the comments on the photo as well.
