Floating on Clouds
“Floating on Clouds” was shot in Goulds Newfoundland Canada.
This is The Dory in natural light. I was talking to a friend about shooting “The Dory” and “Floating on Clouds” and how I used a polarizer to bring out the clouds on the water (as seen here) and removed it and used a flash to shoot “The Dory”. I was wondering in hindsight what I would have come up with if I had used the polarizer and flash at the same time. I know I would have given up about up to two stops with the filter which would have meant a slower shutter speed and the boat was moving, ever so slightly, so it may not have worked out? But maybe next time, live and learn!

Thank You Jeff. While I have been a photographer for about 30 years and do have a good knowledge of the craft and equipment I think the main reason my work is where it is is because I do the leg work. I take time and put effort into my images. I use a tripod, mirror lockup, a cable release whenever I can. I try to do everything I can think of to improve my images. I call it photographic gumption! Ah Brian, what memories! Could be my Grandfather’s dory at North Sydney when I was about 6 years old and he put me in it with a little short hand-hewn oar, tied me to the seat, and showed me how to row! Both versions are great, but if you’d like a vote, I’ll go with the cloud reflections in the water. But it’s a hard choice! Congrats on the features and of course it’s a fav with me :)
