cool one – lovely capture mq
Joanne Bradley
Spectacular Brian, I just love the white against white space, and the contrast of the gray rocks!
richardseah
Wow. What a diiference from the thumbnail. Glad I clicked! Very nice high key pix. (You might want to submit this to high key group.)
Daphne Johnson
Wow, that must have been precarious to get too with the ice on the rocks like that. Very nice capture.
Brian Carey replied
Your right Daphne it was hard getting around because of the ice but I had a good pair of boots on! Funny thing though I was sitting on ice in my jeans (actually I was sitting on a plastic bag which I keep around the camera when it’s damp outside) and I heard some woman say “you look like you know what your doing is that a good place to get a shot” JHC I think I said something like “it all depends what you want to see”! Anyways it was no time to start up a conversation! But as long as your having fun it’s all worth it!
OldBirch
Fantastic! Love it! Great perspective. Great use of cloudy day. Way to go!
martinilogic
Sweet capture. Awesome POV. Perfect light and Presto, excellent image.
Brian Carey
Thank You everyone. Just the other day I was telling OldBirch how I avoid putting the sky in a image when it is heavily overcast and washed out. Also more often than not in this situation the lighting is flat. But after thinking about it I decided to try to try break this “rule” of mine and use this to my advantage! Actually this style of photography reminds me of the artwork of one of Newfoundlands most famous artist David Blackwood
RickF
Well Captured!

Great Work Brian Ilove this picture
Shelly Hiebert
I feel like I am dreaming! Really gorgeous Brian :)
Di Jenkins
wonderful – such a mysterious air!
Stan Wojtaszek
Can I say “Cool shot?” (Sorry – lol)
All kidding aside, it really is a good shot, Brian. I don’t think you broke your rule here. Don’t thnk you could see the sky !
Brian Carey replied
Your right Stan you couldn’t see the sky because it was so foggy and everything was covered in ice which gave me the sheen on the rock in the foreground! But I’ve gone from avoiding this type of sky to considering doing a series of hi key images. Cool stuff!
dinghysailor1
wonderfully foggy capture
:)
Stephen Thomas
Awesome lighthouse photo!
Luka Skracic
Beautiful imagery Brian. I love all the shades of white and the excellent composition!
J.K. York
beautiful shot. the FG icy rock is a perfect lead to the lighthouse shrouded in diffused light. well done.
velveteagle
This worked out very good Brian.. Good eye…
Chuck..
Kevin Kroeker
Excellent work Brian… I ventured up there over the weekend to get some fog shots. It was quite eerie. My vehicle was the only one in the parking lot… talk about solitude and silence. The wind and waves were quite haunting in the thick fog!
Cheers,
Kevin
Rosy Kueng
My biggest compliment on this capture!!! You managed the light and cloudy sky perfectly.
I agree with you, sometime we have to try new things and break the rules to see that it works!
And it worked great here :O)) woow…what a scenery! The angle/perspective is fantastic as well…
Awesome POV…goes strait to my fave :O))
rodsfotos
Love the perspective and it looks like you were in a risky position when taking the image Brian, love the textures on the rocks adding that contrast against the softer white tones, impressive work,
Regards, Rod.
oddoutlet
wow I love the whitness and the angle- great one!
Jan Timmons
Love this vertical and almost minimal style. Very appealing. The prominence and angle of the rocks itself is beautiful, but comes together as a perfect unit with the faint lighthouse.
Could I ask if you used a filter of any sort?
Brian Carey replied
Thank You Jan. I didn’t use any filters here and the only adjustments I did were a slight brightness adjustment in Photoshop. It was overcast and the fog was thick that day which would explain the monochrome look of what is a actually a colour photo!
Ben Herman
Love these subtle tones, very ghostlike.
Vicki Ferrari
Amazing image! It would have been interesting to see a photo of you clamouring around on the ice though! It looks SO cold! Where I live, we don’t get this type of weather! (be that good or bad!) Obviously great for photography though, the way you have composed and captured this! Fave!
Anuja Manchana...
Amazing.
kilmann
Outstanding capture with a great perspective and a wonderful atmosphere.
simonesphotos

GiGee
Love the ghost like feel of the lighthouse standing guard….fantastic capture
Wendy Lam
I’ve never seen a lighthouse at perspective during the winter…great capture!
kalaryder
Oh my that’s looks to be a cold day. What a wonderful capture
Jeffrey Sanders
Beautiful shot!!!
Kassandra Pino
BEAUTIFUL! I love the fog, pulls the attention to the natural beauty of the rocks, yet still lets you see the lighthouse as well
Tracy Faught
Ghostly beautiful!! Just stunning Brian!! :]
Sherry Lynn Cr...
Striking!
micmac
Fantastic!!
David Lewins LRPS
What a fantastic atmospheric image, certainly one to be proud of and just shows that you don’t need blue skies for good images.
