    amazing image, Brian! :))))
am totally intrigued by those short lines – wicked work!!!

  • Brian Carey replied

Thanks Nat. OK here’s the story. This is a picture of the old Cape Spear Lighthouse, it is a 1370 second exposure (almost 23 minutes) at f8. And those lines, they are stars, perhaps Orion!
BTW, the lighthouse is illuminated by operational lighthouse which is out of frame!

thank you for your enlightenment [should i dare say so… loll!]
oh, wow – your choice of exposure and framing make it surreal, my friend! :)))))
    very daring!!! xoxo

  • Brian Carey replied

Thanks again Nat. We have two lighthouses at this site, the lighthouse in this frame is actually illuminated by the operational lighthouse which is out of fame. I’m thinking about doing a series about using the light from lighthouses to create a series of prints at different locations.

Supurb! You chose the perfect spot to take the photo and the placement of the lighthouse is excellent. Outstanding work. Well done!

  • Brian Carey replied

Thanks Hazel and the good thing is that as the shutter was open I was able to go for a walk! ;-)

Now that IS an impressive shot, Brian.

  • Brian Carey replied

Thanks Stan. I’ve been trying to get this shot since October of last year. I made several trips at night and shot one hour exposures but unfortunately the sky was never clear enough and the stars did not record well enough for my liking. It is interesting to note the lighthouse is illuminated by the operation lighthouse to my right (out of frame). Thanks again!

I like the placement of the lighthouse within the frame and the black sky with short lines of the stars.

Beautifully composed, Brian, with the one lighthouse grounding the stars’ movement.
    Have you tried this again?

  • Brian Carey replied

No Jan the weather man hasn’t been very cooperative. I need a sparkling clear night to get the shot I want. I’ve made several trips to this area to take this photo only to be trumped by the clouds and each time I go by the time I drive there take the shot and back you are looking at about three at least hours, half of that waiting around in the dark. But I might give it one more try. I’ll take two camera so I can play around while I’m waiting. Thanks for the comment!
