American Bison
Golden hour sunlight rests on one of approximately 2500 free-roaming American bison at the Tallgrass Prairie Preserve in northern Oklahoma. The prairie originally spanned portions of 14 states from Texas to Minnesota. Due to farms and urban development, the prairie is now less than 10% of its original size. Since 1989 the Nature Conservancy has been working to restore this fully-functioning portion of the tallgrass prairie ecosystem.
