I photographed this painting at the Baltimore Museum of Art in Baltimore, Maryland — it’s a fine example of American art of the Nineteenth Century. The battle was fought on 9 March 1862 at Hampton Roads, Virginia — the first between two ironclad, steam-driven vessels. The CSS Virginia (ex-USS Merrimac) sank or ran aground three U.S. Navy ships the day before and returned on the morning of 9 March 1862 to finish the decimation of the Union fleet — only to find the Monitor in the way. Taken with my Canon EOS7d and a 50 mm prime lens. Hope you enjoy.

Wonderful painting but I suspect that it is illegal for you to have photographed it.

  • All done IAW the photo policy posted in the museum.

That’s good. I’d hate to see one of our members sued!
