Once a happy place...

I said last night when I added a photograph that it was to be the last one from my trip to Whitley Bay 2 days ago, well, I just had another crack at this one and was wondering what you good people think of it in Black & White.. It is my 1st B&W one so would appreciate any feedback . . . don’t be nice for the sake of it, if it’s ney good then just say so, I won’t hunt you down and kill you, honest. lol

Is this part of the old White City David? Black and white suits it because the poor thing is so decrepid, it has no colour left within it. Great capture. So sad it had to go.

Yeah Hilary, that’s the dome of the old White/Spanish City.

I used to love it as a kid going there, Waltzers, Big Dipper, Dodgems, Candy Floss, Chips, Toffee Apple, more rides on the Waltzer . . . then sick all over the place. lol

Well I am game to say what I think knowing I won’t be hunted down and Killed. I like the colour version just that little bit better but the b& w is just fine.

I think the B&W shot really does show the lonliness of this place…......so in that respect this is an excellent capture David!!

Yes, I agree with that. This place is definitely lonely now, believe it or not a few years ago on a lovely sunny day like today there would have been thousands in there.

    Thanks again Ruth.

What a great photograph! The fence, the graffiti, the shadows on the side of the building. Great work. I wonder why the number 3 is painted on the door? Hmmm, shots like this make you ponder the possibilities

Love this b&w David…. in my younger days I used to live about 2 miles away from this place in a little village called Holywell (near Seaton Deleval) – used to love walking down Whitley Bay and seeing the Spanish City – it was still open then with the fairground at the back…. those were the days – thanks for the memory jog!

Thanks Andy. I know Seaton Deleval but never heard of Holywell.

I went to Bob Hunters in Whitley Bay for my 1st tattoo when I was 16 . . . it cost 25p

I like this in b&w David. My first impression was that the sky was too distracting but having looked at it a bit, it’s grown on me. It adds to the desolation feel to the picture.

    Good one.

Thanks mate . . . well, it was hard to capture any other kind of look to be honest, it’s a right dump these days. I wish I was 16 again riding on the waltzer . . . it was a great place.
