“Texture of the Sin” is my nome de plume for this form of my artistic expression.

I have long held an interest in photography but fought with an equally long held view that I had no artistic ability….. which started with a comment from a teacher at school. However when a period of illness steered me away from my usual more active pursuits I found myself with time on my hands and a need to fill it…. and so I came back to photography.

With no formal training and very little experience, in mid 2008 I took up nude photography using myself for a model. This was partly motivated by my desire to challenge my own perceptions about beauty and being over 40 but also to confront my scars (both physical and emotional) from surgery for breast cancer.

This has now become more of a desire to experiment with the human body as art and explore shapes, shadows, light and texture in different ways. And tell stories.

In 2009 I was told the cancer had metastisised and there was no hope for cure. My art has become a refuge.

For me this is part of my life’s journey learning to express the love and honour I have for myself as part of the divine.

If you are kind enough to comment rather than respond here I prefer to do you the courtesy of browsing your work.

I chose to donate my profits from the sale of my work to the Australian Cancer Research Foundation and Breast Cancer Network Australia

Every day 36 women in Australia will be told they have breast cancer. Of that 36, 7 will die from it. That’s 2555 women every year in Australia alone.

The average life expectancy of those with metastatic cancer (cancer that has spread beyond the original site) is 2-4 years. 10% make it to 10 years.

These death rates are not acceptable.

Namaste!

Collaborations

I have been lucky enough to work with some very talented artists on RedBubble, making this is a wonderful and supportive community to be a part of. I can’t help but learn and grow from the experience.

Mel Brackstone is a wonderful talent and just great fun to work with. I feel very lucky to have spent time with her. She has been very kind and generous in sharing her knowledge and has proven to be a truly caring friend.

Paul Vanzella has been a source of incredible strength and support personally and artistically and I am deeply greatful to him for his time and effort.

Ademac is another wonderful artist and beautiful soul and I have very much enjoyed spending some time with him and benefited from his love, support and teaching. He has trusted me enough to model for me and I am deeply honoured by that trust.

All proceeds from the sale of Ademac’s collaborations with me will go to the National Breast Cancer Foundation

The brilliantly talented and incredibly sexy Shawhouse has also been great fun to collaborate with but remains impervious to my attempts to bribe his secrets with chocolate. All proceeds from the sale of Shawhouse’s collaborations with me will go to the National Breast Cancer Foundation

I have also had the deep pleasure of working with TraceyMac who is a truly gifted and inspired artist and a joy to work with. Tracey has been very generous with her knowledge and support and I am deeply greatful to her.

Namaste
