Headless mating mantis by teva-art

Small (15.5" x 23.2")

Available to buy on…

I was following a female Mantis for few days and her every day meals. The last day male showed up and after few hours of staring at each other from about half a meter they started the “life and death game”. I could not shot the actual mating since they were deep inside lavender flower. But i did manage to get few shots when she bite his head off. The interesting thing is, that they were still connected even after the male lost his head. The “eating” took about 20 minutes.

Shot was done with pentax-m 100mm macro at iso800, f5.6 with natural light.
