Contemplation
My friend Len gazing across a sea of cloud at the Refuge Estagnous, Mont Valier, France. We had hoped to spend the morning on the nearby via ferrata (climbing on fixed wires and ladders on sheer rock faces), but the cloud was so low we had to abandon our plans and simply walk down.

This is a view hardly any of us will ever see except in this photo.
Tessa Bishop replied
You’re probably right – getting up there involved several hours hard walking and a night in a refuge with lots of sweaty, tipsy French men – great fun!!
Vikram Franklin
Awesome pic – made me want to take up climbing again! Alas (said dramatically) – 10 years later, I’m about 10 Kg heavier and a lot less fit :-)
Tessa Bishop replied
Thanks Vikram. I’m getting on a bit and not a fit as I was, but for this sort of view I’ll ‘bust a gut’ !!
