The Valley

The Valley

I came upon the valley, in the midst of who-knows-where?
The beauty that bespoke this place, I could but stand and stare,
Tall trees surrounded it on the top of rugged hills,
Preserved in all their beauty, so far from human mills.
*
As I looked upon the valley, in wonderment and awe,
Feelings of a special place, like forever, that I saw.
Was as if our very Maker, had led me to this place,
Only blessed to be here with permission and His grace.
*
As contoured land now flattened out, the nature, changing more,
There was grass, and smaller shrubs, from floods that passed before;
The raging river now was just a gently flowing stream,
With fine mist slowly rising, like the rivers pent-up steam.
*
The stream meandered slowly through the central valley floor,
The gentle sound of water had replaced its mighty roar.
With twists and turns along its path, it seemed to me to be,
Forever searching for a path to lead it to the sea.
*
The valley slowly came to life, as the sun rose that day,
The birds began their urgent call, as Life came out to play,
Now, animals to eat the grass, as reptiles seek the sun,
It’s been that way since start of time, a new day had begun.
*
I made my way from off the hills, onto the valley floor,
It wrapped itself around me, like I’ve never felt before.
I seemed to become part of it, as it was part of me,
The difference between us now was very hard to see.
*
It seemed to cleanse my soul, as I sat beside the stream.
A whole new world then opened up, like I was in a dream.
The things that I thought mattered most were slowly brushed away,
A sense of peace came over me,I still feel this today.
*
I opened up my mind and felt Somebody call my name,
And knew from deep inside, henceforth, I’d never be the same.
For it was with God Himself that morning, I had spoken.
Once a link like that has formed, it never can be broken.
*
Although this all happened, oh, so many years ago,
A part that still fills my heart, I now take where’er I go.
Knowing that precious valley will be waiting there for me,
And once again within its walls, my spirit will be free.
