This took me five full hours today (16 June 08).
The scene description:
A poor little dying boy, who knows that his end is very near and that medicine is no longer going to help him. He knows the lady is just caring for him and he has been taking the medicines recently mostly just to please her.
But he also knows that she knows the medicine is not helping. He knows she is trying to simply be there for him.
His broken heart has basically already left his body.
The lady: she has a strong back, and a huge heart, but it’s slipping down as she grows weary beneath its weight as she tries to come to terms with the fact that this little boy is probably going to be gone tomorrow.
technique: almost tears as I frustratedly tried to perfect this! I kept thinking I was happy with it, then saw something I wanted to change. I am fairly new to computers and digital editing and that slowed me up too.
It was originally a photo of a handcrafted wooden bird. I took it to liquid in photoshop and smeared and smeared and smeared and smeared and smeared (u get the pic!), until I was happy enough.
Then added lensflare top left corner.
Also a lot of touching up with a small brush in photoshop.
Then almost left it like that, but tried a few filters to see if any enhanced my work, and I loved this one, the plastic wrap, as it turned my work into chocolate!
Which I feel also depicts the amazing sweetness of these two characters.

I think this is your best graphic work yet. Your combination of textures and colour depict this bittersweet moment perfectly. Love you.

this reminds me of having my ear drops which I hate – although I love this – this is so wonderful it looks like you made it on the computer!!!!!!!!!!!!!
How did you make it so dramatic???

  • Thank u Mo. I did make it on the computer! Smeared around with liquid in photoshop, then also added plastic wrap filter, which made it kinda shiny like chocolate.
