Arbutus tree in the fog by TerrillWelch

Currently unavailable for purchase

The arbutus tree holds a special place in my heart for grace, warmth and beauty. The fog was so thick that day that it provided a perfect soft background.

Mayne Island, British Columbia, Canada.

thanks Steve… arbutus are often elegant by nature – the fog just helped to bring it into sharper focus.

thanks Jeff… a lot of people say that about this photo and it is how I felt when I was taking it as well. It was about a 3 hour photo shoot wandering along the seashore trails through the woods.

beautiful natural shape and form. diffused light through fog makes a super neutral background to set this tree off. excellent subject framing. well done.

  • thank you J.K. York. I was hoping to get another photo shoot like had with the thick fog when this one was taken but it hasn’t happened yet.

“For much of vegetation, death as part of the natural cycle of life in the plant kingdom comes in the fall. In autumn, nature puts on her most brilliant show of color that stirs and then quiets the soul. From bright yellows to dazzling reds, she transforms and shows off her rich and vibrant hues—her splendor—before taking a deep bow. Then like feathers, she allows her leaves to drop softly, pooling on the ground at her feet. With poise and dignity she remains unveiled and vulnerable until the following spring.”

  • thank you… I have never had an opportunity to do this again. The fog was so thick that I couldn’t see anything except what was right in front of me.
