Memorial Church is a building located in Ajuda,Lisbon, Portugal. The beginning of the work was around May 1760,the first stone was laid in September 3, 1760. Founded by D. Joseph I, in a gesture of gratitude for having been saved from an assassination attempt two years earlier, in 1758, on the site.

The king was returning from a secret meeting with a lady of the Tavora family when the carriage was attacked and a bullet hit him in the arm.
The design of this temple came from the Italian Giovanni Carlo Galli Bibiena Sicinio Bolognese architect and designer .

The conduct of the works until November 20, 1760, was in charge of the Italian architect. However, the work stopped in 1762 for economic reasons, and only resumed in November of 1779. The architect Mateus Vicente de Oliveira, was then responsible for the church top floor , the dome, cupola and lantern. In 1785, Matthew Vincent dies, leaving unfinished the bell tower.

In neo-classical style, the church is small, but graceful, and the interior marble and abroad with a beautiful dome. Yet his most significant detail is that it serves as a mausoleum to the Marquis of Pombal, who is buried there.
