Spotted this really fascinating cloud when I was visiting Indian Canyons, just outside of Palm Springs, California (USA). Really frightened me at first, but no one else was paying attention to it, so I decided it must be fairly normal for the area. It reminded me so much of the cloud formations you see in all the movies with space ships coming to earth!

Superb! Be sure and enter into “Both Sides Now Group”…it is strictly for clouds.
Thanks Pat! I have added to that group, awaiting approval.

Oh – oh – oh!!!! It’s one of the best examples of a Lenticular cloud that I’ve ever seen!!!!! Now you can see how people have often thought they were flying saucers. Have a look here on the ‘Cloud Appreciation Society’ website….

Thank you so much Heather. And thank you for the info on the website. It is really interesting!! Our clouds in the northwest aren’t usually too dramatic, so this was pretty exciting to see.
