Awesome, beautiful and well composed work

so dreamy .. I love the tall ships!

Masts creaking, canvas flapping,
The clipper ghosts out from the fog
Distantly, I can hear the muted calls
As the seamen, the hatches dog.
Faintly, I can see the morning watch
High in the cupola of the mast,
Peering bow ward for the rocks
In the harbor as they pass.
Black hat’d, the deck men,
Pulling this line and that one,
Controlling which sail must bend,
Six bells must chime,
‘Fore the watch can change,
Muscles and bone and sinew tire,
As men pine for their breakfast grain.
The mate’s cry, the anchor fall,
The splash and the chain rake.
The hull rocks as the chain halts
And the halyards brake.
Men clamber to the spars
Secure the canvas to the varnished wood
‘Ere they wipe their hands.
Each grins with the job done
For a moment or two they simply stand.
The Officer of the day
calls his last command.
“Six bells, and all’s well!”
“By god, ye scurvy men,
get your grub and pail!!”
