Moraine Lake, Banff National Park, Alberta, Canada

Moraine Lake is a glacially-fed lake in Banff National Park, 14 kilometres (8.7 mi) outside the Village of Lake Louise, Alberta, Canada. It is situated in the Valley of the Ten Peaks, at an elevation of approximately 6,183 feet (1,885 m). The lake has a surface area of .5 square kilometres (0.19 sq mi).

The lake, being glacially fed, does not reach its crest until mid to late June. When it is full, it reflects a distinct shade of blue. The color is due to the refraction of light off the rock flour deposited in the lake on a continual basis.

The area around the lake has several walking/hiking trails which are, from time to time, restricted because of grizzly bear activity.

Canon XT with wide angle Sigma 10-20mm lens, f/8, 1/250sec, ISO-200, 14mm.

Fantastic capture Teresa…….I think I know that place lol. Wonderful image and gorgeous colors !! Congrats on your well deserved feature !!

  • Many thanks Sean. I had about an hour of a bit better weather when I took this shot. Just enough time to go around the shore to these canoes and back. Well, you grab what you can and be happy.
