This little-known Intermountain wildflower flowers in early to midsummer. The bloom time is not as long as that of cultivated hollyhocks, but this plant looks much better than a hollyhock when not in flower. It has lush, bright green maple-like foliage that turns a beautiful clear yellow in the fall.

Photographed in Yellowstone National Park, Wyoming, USA
