Thank you sweetie. Are you missing Alaska? Maybe that’s why you’re drawn to winter images. You don’t have it on Maui. It’s like me always fascinated with summer because of our harsh winters. Mahalo my dear friend.

‘Ae, often I miss the wild beauty of Alaska, the amazing atmospheric optics and Aurora Borealis, the deep winter scenics and the beautiful Moose… I view my own photos constantly. But I do not miss the subzero deep and endless cold and long days of darkness in winter. It is hard for me to imagine it was real as I remember many days when the sun only rose and skipped through the trees on the horizon and then set again plunging the world into perpetual darkness. Those are the things I remind myself of when I long for Alaska and I think to myself no, I could not bear it again. Winters are over 7 months and often the temps are below minus -50F. It is too much!! And each and every day I am grateful to be living here on the warm tropical island of Maui. It is so wonderful to immerse myself in the language, culture and arts, wander in the deep forests upcountry and to explore the wild beauty on the east coastal areas near Kaupo and Hana. And I love swimming in the tide pools of Ho’okipa, where the water is so clear and pristine, it is absolutely delicious. I love the salty taste of the ocean and it feels so good on my skin and hair. The sands are a wonderful natural exfoliate and I enjoy the beaches so much!! The saline waters and rhythm of the ocean restores my soul and balances my body!! So yes, often I do miss the vast beauty of Alaska and there are people there I love very much. Yet, I am very much at home and happy here on Maui and will never leave the island. I love you Tenia!!

Oh Sharon, I’ve never been to Alaska but I know exactly how it feels as winters here are long and harsh too. It’s so hard to survive until spring and it’s getting harder with every passing year. I love Maui. If I only could I would move there and never go anywhere else. It’s exactly like you said, the climate and the ocean, the smell of flowers, the lush vegetation, incredible views, the birds singing. It’s a paradise pure and simple and I envy you the ability to live there permanently. What a blessing. Enjoy sweetheart and maybe someday we will meet again on your beautiful island.
