This is a close up of a male pileated woodpecker on a tree with many holes. Taken in the rain at the Britannia Woods in Ottawa Ontario Canada using my Nikon D300 and 200-400 lens with fill flash. I shot this bird for about 45 minutes during which time the slight rain turned to snow (it was early spring).

I absolutely love this shot…we occasionally see pileated woodpeckers near our home (northern Ohio) and it is a thrill each time one appears. Keep up the good work.
