Colored pencil with charcoal background
on 70 pound Canson drawing paper, 9 × 12 inches.
It’s a medium tooth paper.

Prismacolor and Derwent colored pencils were used.
I’ve always enjoyed drawing, but after starting college and taking a real drawing class, I am learning so much, but the terminology is still a little confusing.
The Canson paper seems a little smoother than the Strathmore 80 pound paper. I bought it to see if I like it better and I think yes, I do….so far.

    beautiful work

  • Thank you and sorry this is a late reply. Somehow I wasn’t paying very close attention and was using the ‘add comment’ button instead of the ‘reply’ button so I’m sure nobody received my replies that way!

I love the simplicity of the single flower in your drawing. And the complexity of the color rendering is good. you have managed to really create the shape and form of the flower and bud. what I mean is I took one look at this and I “saw” the dahlia. It is beautiful…

  • Thank you very much for the encouraging comment. I drew just one flower because that’s what was in the photo I took and because I wasn’t sure about doing a drawing with very much in it. I’ve only done a few things so far and really need to venture on to more than just one item in a drawing.
