My four-year-old grandson walking through tire tracks in the snow in our cul-de-sac.

He came to stay with us last summer from Hawaii, where he’s spent most of his life. Baby Sister, Nora, stayed at a friend’s in Hawaii during the times that Mom was away.

His Dad (my son) was in Iraq again and his Mom was getting ready to possibly be deployed, which meant being gone from home for weeks at a time.

Being a strong-willed child, he’s a little tough on daycare providers so Grandpa Brian went to get him and brought him to Oregon for awhile.

While he was here, he missed his mommy, but we had fun and went for lots of nature walks and played with trains and Duplos. We dressed up for halloween and hit a pinata and hooray we had some snow!

Luckily, Rion’s Mom never had to be deployed, and Dad came home soon after but I got to spend 5 months getting to know him better and now we’re buddies.
