From high up Edward Hopper smashed light against substance – to invariably watch substance flinch. In buildings he found his fears and desires. Or did he release ours?
He revealed in the struggle between light and substance outcomes that mattered. But… but… even dreadful stuff matters. And somehow, in his torridly lit frames there remained an intangible alienation of a visitor’s shadowy dread.
GEEK STUFF: Canon 60D through its EF-S 10-22mm (f3.5-4.5) and then processed in PS4 with heavy assist from AlienSkin’s SnapArt4.
REQUIEUM FOR A FEELING- This view is gone from the Lancaster, Pa. skyline. A beautiful new building blocks it from most vantage points. Sad? No. Each generation elbows its way into its own architectural moment so that citiy-scapes are throbbing things reflecting the way culture flows over time. Cityscapes are more like lava-leavings than everlasting monuments to one moment.
Hidden somewhere in Lancaster’s architectural lava is this Sunday morning gem… Its shimmers shadowed away now from the morning sun.
