Fore!
I have warned Mr Akamatsu not to use his 1 wood in the backyard on several occasions which is why one can easily understand my frustrations when I caught this with my camera. I refuse to return anymore golf ball that I find in my living room….
Straight from the camera. Nothing is attached to the ball and this image is just one shot. The key to this is the 50mm lens. I simply tossed the ball myself up in front of the camera.
Camera: Canon EOS 40D
Exposure: 0.003 sec (1/400)
Aperture: f/13
Focal Length: 50 mm
ISO Speed: 800
Exposure Bias: 0 EV
Flash: Flash did not fire

Top work, tdub303!
Mr Akamatsu should look after his balls – otherwise they may be snapped and frozen!

Great image and words, very clever. – Cora

Very clever shot – how many takes did it take ;)
tdub303 replied
surprisingly only about ten. i have the tossing in front of the camera down but it was a sunny day so it was difficult light to work in. This shot had the best composition but the slowest shutter speed. I was working in Av mode and the variation in shutter speeds from shot to shot was incredible due to the sunny weather. I wanted to keep shooting but I could tell my father-in-law’s(Mr Akamatsu) patience were near an end…haha

Great shot, this one is a winner!

Nice one!!!

Hey Trevor I wonder if you should approach Nike with this one!
tdub303 replied
I was actually thinking about it just for kicks….
I would like to re do this in a greener setting rather that in the front yard though…
really easy to do and a really neat effect.

Hi Trevor when I first seen this image I was very impressed by the clarity and framing of the golf ball. The second time I looked I was very impressed by the composition. The juxtaposition of the ball and the golfer is perfect!
hardhhhat
Bet his arms were aching after standing in that position but 10 goes sounds good to me – I was explaining how it was done to some guys at work who were very impressed with the result and I said if that were me you’d probably never see the ball in the picture :o)

Brilliant wordplay and execution of shot!! Whoever thought that a camera could be this much fun?
Stunning!! Kudos to you for this gem of an image!!

Best timing ever? Suppose so… Kind of risky, but wonderful to look at!
Vonnie Murfin
WoW!! What an amazing shot!! Did you break the lens?
Bradley Nichol
Fabulous work and good thing the father-in-law was somewhat patient…..? slower shutter speed? harsh light? if you did – it is incredibly well done – W O W !
Taylor Sawyer
OK Trevor, explaint his shot to me. I know theres no string attached but I find it really hard to believe it was shot with just a 50mm lens and the lens is not broken AND that the shutter speed was only 1/400, had to have been faster to catch that. PLus, how did you get the DOF with the aperture so small? Nothing makes sense here.
Please dont think I am critisizing! I think this is an awesome photo and I agree with the previous poster that said you should approach Nike with this one. I’m just trying to figure out the photographic logistics here.

OK I can’t post my secret for all to see but I will give you a link to more extensive EXIF data Take note there is no software used and the data shows it is straight from the camera. This image is a lesson in perception. I can tell the image is no lie but maybe my story of Mr.Akamatsu is.
Maybe you find some clues in these other pictures here on RB.

I enjoy creating pictures that make people think. I can guarantee that I do not use any software for anything(even cropping). I simply take my time and get it right. It is much quicker than be lazy and fixing in PS.
Anyone interested in knowing how this or any pictures of mine are done send me Bmail and I will gladly explain. Sharing info amongst contacts is OK with me but posting these secrets on the net would be just plain foolish.
Doug Greenwald
This is great!!
Taylor – the DOF is fine, even at f/13. Remember that DOF is smaller the closer the focus is to to the camera.
And 1/400 is plenty fast enough to stop a golf ball tossed lightly straight up in front of the camera.
Jonicool
Amazing work! Bravo!!
Julie Thomas
fantastic work, very well done!

Great work! Very inspiring for the moment I’ll get a digital camera one day… (I guess it could get quite expensive trying it with film :))
