Curious Juvenile Long-eared Owl by

Seattle, WA

As I was walking through a Seattle park, seeking another rare bird, I heard a screech that was unfamiliar to me. After hearing it over and over again, I gave up on my previous target and sought out the noise. As I slowly moved closer to the sound, it split into two. I moved closer and closer, yet still couldn’t see anything. All of a sudden a face turned towards me and one of two juvenile long-eared owls was staring at me at eye level. The two flew down the trail and “played” in the grass for a bit. Finally one flew up in this tree where I hung out with it for about 45 minutes before it decided to fly somewhere more interesting.

Since 2006 I have been slowly discovering the natural world around me through photography. I am sharing these images to help inspire others to seek out nature, whether it be in your backyard or out in the wilderness.
