Short-eared Owl in Natural Sepia by

Skagit Valley, WA

The short-eared owl is a wonder to observe. It hunts rodents by flying low over grasslands, flapping its wings like a big moth. I sat on the bank of a slough, when this owl landed about 30 feet away giving me a striking pose in gorgeous light.

Since 2006 I have been slowly discovering the natural world around me through photography. I am sharing these images to help inspire others to seek out nature, whether it be in your backyard or out in the wilderness.
