Special Evening Event (with the QUEEN)
Cereus bloom. (B&W)
QUEEN OF THE NIGHT
I stayed up all night to capture this magical evening event!! I took a lot of pictures… :)
Moon gardens, so named because of their glow-in-the-dark soft-hued flowers and plants with variegated foliage, have a life of their own. Shimmering in the glow of the rising moon, they release their sensuous scents into the night. Pale moths nibble on nocturnal blooms, fireflies dazzle and nightingales delight.
The true flowers of the night are those that open only when darkness falls. For drama, nothing quite compares to the spectacle of the awakening of the night-blooming cereus. This ragged, sinuous cactus clambers up palm trees and fences with long, prickly, tangled limbs studded with huge closed buds. When dusk falls, the unsightly blossoms explode into splendid, foot-long flowers that set the night sky ablaze with their white fireworks. The plant well deserves its familiar name of Queen of the Night.
