Queen of the Night

Watch-CEREUSLY

This plant is called a Cereus plant, or “Queen of the Night”. It only blooms perhaps once a year, ONE NIGHT a year, and usually opens up late at night soon after midnight with my experience. This is the second year it’s bloomed, and it’s really an awesome few hours to see her in all her glory, for in the morning, she closes up, and she is done. There were two blooms that opened up at the same time. It’s truly an honor to be in her presence, because it’s SO easy to miss this beautiful bloom!

Wow… nice capture.. That is one thing I do not have is a green thumb… Plants have a tendancy to turn yellow and die in my presance.. so we do each other a favor and “leave” each other alone…I made a funny.. this is gorgeous…till next time..tah tah

I stayed up til like 6 am taking shots… you have to be really really careful, because it’s only at night, and if you use your flash, it may make the flower close up; which I’ve read about. Search “cereus” -> seriously, it’s quite interesting. I’m sure Victoria will like this pretty flower, LOL! And I’m sure Hollie’s daughter Ozlynn knows all about it!!! Smart kids! Cute too ; ) Ciao for now. Onto the big debate tonight; hmmm… shall be interesting!

Thanks Hollie! I had to be very patient. And it was so very worth it. Imagine if you had a plant on your deck, and you begin to see these two huge bulbs hanging from a leaf, and you knew this was a spectacular event, oh my… and I was so tired that night. Ready to just chill and go to bed, but realized this magnificent flower was going to open up and bloom that night, I had to be a trooper, and stay up super late, and shoot… It’s a rare event! Take care buddy!!!!

  • Terri~Lynn Bealle

    Terri~Lynn Bealle

Tripod, and no flash, a few with a flash of course… just no bright lights because the bloom might fold back in. It’s very delicate and fragile. I’ll add on soon the leaf it was hanging from. Amazing to say the least! The bud forms right off the leaf of the plant which just is stunning to me. It doesn’t make for a great pic, but I will add it on here just to show you…

  • Terri~Lynn Bealle replied

Hi Pat! WOW, that’s so exciting you have some babies of this magnificent plant. It’s truly magical when it blooms. It’s amazing how it happens. You would never know by looking at the plant what beauty blooms off of it’s leaves. Oh, I’ll have to attach a video… Thanks again. I look forward to the next Queen of the Night’s blooming! :) I’m so excited you have these plants! Not too many people know about them.
