MOTHER & CHILD II

MOTHER & CHILD II

Image captured in a small rural town outside of Shenzhen, China. Factories and farming dominate the activity of this town. Among the tons of factories, there were apartment dwellings for the people working in these factories. The majority of these people came from outside provinces for work. I found the people living here to be very gentle, innocent and curious.

Needless to say, I was very shocked to see this mother and child living in this make-shift home in between new and dilapidated buildings….it was and is a rather heart wrenching scene to me.

Nana korobi, ya oki.
A Japanese proverb…..
Literal translation: Seven falls, eight getting up.
Meaning: An encouragement to keep going no matter how tough it is.

an exquisitely composed ‘that’s how it is” shot – I suppose it might be the family of one of the labourers without a permit to live in the city

  • Tatum Wulff replied

Thank you for your thoughtful comment Werner; yes, that’s quite likely.. (no permit).

it teribly sad to see alright in this day and age that some have so little we really dont have a lot to complain about some of us we are so lucky

  • Tatum Wulff replied

Sirenhill, thank you dearly for the feature and also thank you for your thoughtful comment regarding this image and what it says. We are very lucky… most of us feel don’t have enough, when really we ought be extremely grateful for what we do have, considering there are so many w/o the basics. But I like to think that there are some w/o a lot of money but they are strong in character and spirit, whereas there are those with huge bank accounts who are very poor in character and spirit….
Still… everyone deserves at the bare minimum, the basics of enough food, clean drinking water and a home.

  • sirenhill

    sirenhill

thats true it should be a basic right for everyone .I think tecnological advancement could wait a bit maybe more time should be invested in people rather than creating machines to destroy or factories to drain natural resources

  • Tatum Wulff replied

Yes, I totally agree. Balance and priorities need to be restored and/rethought

Tis photo is more than touching, because it shows what´s going wrong in this world. It also is a kind of testimony, for generations that follow us!
