Outside In. by Thea T

This image was untitled for a long time but I have finally come up with a name for it….‘Outside In’ :)

Inspired by my love of nature… bringing the outside, inside.

This is like a dream. I didn’t see the fish at first or that perhaps she’s a mermaid. Wonderful!

  • Thankyou!!… From memory, this was inspired by Max’s bedroom from ‘Where the Wild Things Are’ (one of my fave childhood books)…also I hadn’t considered the mermaid possibility, but I like it!! There could easily be a fishy tale submerged in there :-)

I love that book! I never saw the movie because I didn’t want to spoil my memories of it.
I thought for sure that was a tail hanging over the edge and submerged in the water. :)
Either way it’s a beautiful piece that I love looking at.

  • I haven’t seen the movie either. I heard mixed reviews which put me off a bit…maybe one day. And thanks for your kind comments as always :-)

looks like your character has a phobia or is going through withdrawal.

  • That’s an interpretation that I hadn’t considered. Thanks for your input.

Interesting portrait of loneliness…I feel this very thing.

  • Thanks Sandra… although I don’t think of her as particularly lonley because she is surrounded by animals/nature which she has manifested into her indoor space. Actually, I’m not even totally sure what it is about, lol, so I always like to hear other people’s impressions. All the best to you :)

for me it’s a depiction of solitude as well, like for Sandra…

  • Hi Ina… I can see that now… & her hollow looking eyes probably add to that whole feeling. I was also experimenting with fish-eye photography at the time which transferred over into some of my paintings (hence the distortion), which I think give the sense that she’s in a kind of solitary bubble.
    Cheers, Thea :)
