I have been watching the behaviour of Praying mantises for 9 days now spending 8 to 9 hours a day on the observed territory. So I had the opportunity to study them in the strangest situations.
Watching them mating and hunting was a great experience which inspired me to continue gathering further information on them.
Praying mantises are incredibly greedy and fierce predators. They mainly feed on insects. According to the special literature they also take smaller birds ans mammals as prey.
As the territory being observed is extremely rich in insects I saw them capture only grasshoppers and bees but they may take other insects as well.
The female mantis in the picture took a more than 2 cm size grasshopper and ate it during 5 minutes.
