Early Fagus
22nd March, 2009.
Every Autumn, Australia’s only native winter-deciduous plant, Nothofagus Gunnii (commonly known as Deciduous Beech, or just Fagus) puts on a most spectacular show in the remote wet highland areas of Tasmania. Landscape images of hillsides are often seen, a very worthy photographic subject.
Here, the early stages of change are demonstrated. The detail in these leaves is incredible as shown by the macro lens.
This was taken amongst a large stand of Fagus to the south-east of Cradle Mountain. You will find this plant nowhere else in the world except Tasmania, and then only in cool, damp alpine areas.
How much detail is there in my photos?
