Lake Windermere, Overland Track, Tasmania

Approaching Lake Windermere on the Overland Track in Tasmania, Australia, in the late afternoon sun.
The Cradle Mountain Lake St Clair National Park is most famous for the mountain for which the park shares its name.
It is a park that is also widely known for one of the great bushwalks of the world – the Overland Track.
In Winter 2007 I spent nine days traversing the entire park with all my camera gear. I was blessed with exceptional weather for that time of year.
This image shows the beauty of the afternoon light, the moody skies, Lake Windermere through the snowgums, and Mt Pelion East among others in the background.

Dimensions: 3872×2592 pixels.
Taken with a Nikon D200 camera.

    Thanks for the comments.
I gave it some thought – I positioned myself to be directly between the main tree with its shining bark and the sun, so that the tree had no shadows on the edge of the trunk – giving the scene an added elememt. The tree really shines, and the effect of it having no shadows is lost in the scene because it fits so well. Highlighting the tree as a subject within the image, but not having it take over the image if I were to, for example, get close to it and fill a third the image with the trunk. An image I am very happy with.
I did take it twice – the first I was up too high and my shadow was in the trunk. A bit careless – so I worked hard at getting low from my shooting position to be in the shadow of a bush behind me.

I am particularly touched by the fact that a card has just been purchased of this image. Thank you very much to the purchaser – I feel it a very fitting image as a first sale since joining Redbubble two weeks ago.
    Thank you.
