Rainforest stream, Overland Track, Tasmania
Walking the Overland Track in Tasmania, Australia, from Pelion Hut to Kia Ora, many streams like this are encountered.
The Cradle Mountain Lake St Clair National Park is most famous for the mountain for which the park shares its name.
It is a park that is also widely known for one of the great bushwalks of the world – the Overland Track.
In Winter 2007 I spent nine days traversing the entire park with all my camera gear. I was blessed with exceptional weather for that time of year.
This is one of the many images I captured from that journey.
Dimensions: 3872×2592 pixels.
Taken with a Nikon D200 camera.
How much detail is there in my images?

Brilliant camera work capturing the light in the deep rainforest. How long is your exposure? I love the moss and smooth silky look of the water flowing in the stream. Wonderfully composed, you created fantastic depth and dimension with the plant in the foreground glistening in the rainfall. This is very beautiful!

Thank you Sharon for your accolades. To answer your question, this image was taken at ISO 100, F stop 22, for a 6 second exposure. Obviously a well anchored tripod.
Neil’s comments about no wind is a follow-up after viewing this image where I described the requirement for such still conditions to be able to capture sharp detail like this over a long exposure.
Getting this image information has made me look at it again in full screen, where I can see how sharp it really is – nice to visit it again.
The image was taken on 30th June 2007, just before noon. That’s the middle of winter over here.
Thank you for accepting this image to the Forests group.
