This is another entry for the Canon PhotoBox 5 competition in 2008. This is using the tea light to show the evolution from fire through to energy efficient bulbs to provide light
Canon 40D
17-85mm
f4.5
ISO 100
8 sec exposure, tea light candle left lit, then incandescent bulb flicked on then off followed by energy efficient bulb flicked on then off.
This shot took many many tries as I wanted to try and capture the filament of the incandescent bulb. Try as I might, I couldn’t get the energy efficient bulb to flicker (like they sometimes do) so it’s come out much brighter than I wanted and you can’t see the shape of the coils in the bulb. It’s not as sharp as I would have liked. I didn’t have a tripod so I used a chair, but I think pressing the shutter resulted in some movement – hence the slight blur. I also didn’t have a light-tent so I made a box out of black cardboard then fiddled with the colour in post processing.
