Mary Queen Of Scots

Mary Queen Of Scots by Te- Ge

Mary Queen Of Scots

This photo was taken in My dads workshop
L.Grandison & Son. in Peebles.
He does ornamental platerworks and the family owned business
has been going for over 120years.

Mary Queen of Scots

During the preperations to open the Museum/Workshop,
this effigy of Mary Queen of Scots was discovered, by chance,
amongst a pile of items.

It is almost identical to the representation of her face on her tomb
in Henry VII chapel at Westminster Abby which was constructed by her
song King James I of England and VII of Scotland.

Wether this cast dates from the 16th or 17th Century we do not know.

Where it has come from we are not sure either, but we can only assume
that about 70 years ago when L.Grandison & Son bought some origionals
at an auction held when a famous platstering firm, Jas. Annan, was giving up
business that this effigy was included in one of the lots.
(The significance of which was not realised at the time)

This piece used to frighten the crap out of me when I was little and I still find it a bit creepy

Hi Tanis, I read Mary’s only book. She only wrote the one. The title is ‘How To Get Ahead’.
OK that wasn’t my best joke but its late its been a long day & I’m feeling a little ‘cagie’.

Excellent plaster work & photography Tanis. Hope you & Craig have been taking some BW portrait shots. Looking forward to seeing the results. xx
