Hello!!

I am an artist whose primary tool is her camera.

The intent in both my art & portrait photography is to reveal the essence of the moment being captured. My hope is for the relationship between the subject and the viewer to be one that is thought provoking, emotionally moving or to simply allow you to see & consider something in a new light.

While at times there is pre-conceptualization for an image, there is always space made “to be moved” when interacting with my subject. With faith in a creative spirit guiding me as an artist I always pause in the process of making a photograph, to be attentive to what may want to be communicated through me. In the end I find the unplanned, unexpected images to be the most powerful.

This quote by Henri Cartier-Bresson makes me jump up & down inside and shout Yes, Yes – that’s exactly it!!

“In a portrait, I’m looking for the silence in somebody.”

When doing portrait photography I find myself waiting for my subject to be “quiet” – to settle into themselves – so that the images we make together are more raw and real. My desire is for a hint of the person’s inner life to come into focus while their surface self blurs to the edges.

As a self taught photographer who is still very young in her career I continue to explore my voice with this medium. What you will find in my online galleries is a mix of my interests in storytelling through image – often using layers and textures to visually express emotion; portrait photography – with a specific interest in finding the beauty in the everyday person; and my love for the quirky via conversation with color, shape and texture.
