Moonrise:Hottest Night on Record by

Finally the cool change came last night…the moon rose through a haze of smoke from the bush-fires.
The afternoon sky had been a hideous grey-sepia, like some post-apocalyptic world, the roads bare, as the temperature reached 46.4…

Thinking about all the people affected by the fires, and the incredible efforts of the fire-fighters….

Please have a look at Steven Sandner’s incredible documenting of the bushfires in his area. His photographs are astonishing and very scary….

Tania, this a wonderful image…that moon seem to usher in a sense of peace…

  • it was certainly a great relief, but i think the fires are still burning in some areas…it’s very upsetting…my thoughts are with the victims of the fires…

great shot digg the shape off the smoke/clouds i have a similar pic cloud shape wise and
them fires sound nastee as my old stomping ground where i grew up out at st andrews / kinglake it does look very duanting for the people that lost people and houses and the poor animals
i cant believe it got to 46.765 in melbourne but very fitting that its cold now lol only in melbourne

  • yes the animals must have been through hell as well lately…it’s just terrible….
i liked the way this looks almost like a glaring eye…
yeah Melbourne is nothing if not varied/extreme….

Brutal wasn’t it! I stayed inside til about 7pm, then I did a beer run :)

  • it was quite unbelievable.. thankfully the air-conditioner at work did a good job, but whenever i had to go outside, it was like stepping in to an oven! let’s hope this doesn’t happen again for a long time… : )

We had no aircon!! We sat in front of fans with wet towels and cold-bricks under our feet. Stupid weatherboard cheap house :(

  • oh jeez! you poor things! well it was one day i didn;t mind being at work, cos i was able to stay cool in spite of the heat, and all the physical activity i had to do….still i reckon if we were spared the danger that a lot of folks have endured, we are very lucky.

Nice Work Tania, it is so sad so many people have lost their lives and like all of Australia my heart goes out to Melbourne. Its a huge reminder of what a harsh climate we live in and how such beauty can so brutally turn. I have driven through a bush fire and that was scary enough, I cant imagine what it would feel like to watch your much loved home engulfed in flames, and of the grief of those who have lost their loved ones. Lets hope that the moon in your picture brings now some peace, and yes, I hope it doesnt happen again for a long time. x

  • i agree with everything you’ve said…it’s unimaginable…so very sad…
