  • Tania Donald replied

actually this is out the front of my ma’s house..hee hee. but i do like a bit of the old chiaroscuro style…carravaggio is my favourite artist, and i love the drama of figures emerging from the darkness in his work. : )

thanks for the direction on Carravaggio, I remember now…. master of cloth, drapery, and hair to say the least. My son just walked past, barely took a glance, and said Carravaggio. He is a photographer. Thanks again, Heather.

happy to spread the word about the Master. he rocks, and he was quite the bad boy too. killed someone over a tennis match allegedly…i love his earthy, often dirty and gritty realism, his bodies have weight to them. a few years back i went to an exhibition that featured some of his works, it was INCREDIBLE!!! i was standing lookin at something, and when i turned to face another picture i literally nearly fell over! the figures in the painting were so dimensional they appeared to almost be falling out of the painting. i have never been so viscerally affected by art before or since. my art historian friend, who has seen many carravaggios in the flesh, said the same thing, his people seem to be falling out towards you in a way that reproductions in book can’t convey….amazing stuff.

I totally agree… I thought they looked three dimensional. I am the only one in my family (husband and three sons) who is not an artist, and do not have the knowledge they have. But red bubble is educating me! It leads me down paths I have never been before, mostly enjoyable. Thanks, Heather
