I adore this painting! All of this warmth inside a cool, shadowy surround, is symbolic of exactly what a clown aims to do. That is, they bring warmth, merriment, and exaggerated emotions to their space so that everyone around them can participate in the joy or empathy of the moment. Clowns make it happen for others.
