LOSS OF HUMANITY VIA CORPORATE CONTROL by

At the top of the city
in a glass-chromed room
an attorney assures the board of directors
that the corporation is the person
against which any or all action may be taken,
not against each and every director joint or several.
The multiheaded person exhales dry-iced victory
as counsel backs out the door
descending floor after floor
to wait for a cab in the cold.
Nearby a breathing bundle of rags
sits on a grate of steam
and waits just waits
wondering where warmth went.
—Ruth Knight, “Persons”

Our image world crawls with naked bodies that build up flourishing worlds of stimuli for voyeurism and the brain sensuality of the capitalist wish society… Because the commodity society can only function on the basis of disembodiment, its members are consumed by a hunger for images of the body, including one’s own body image.
—Sloterdijk, Critique of Cynical Reason

so far as we believe in law, we condemn existence.

—Goodrich, Reading the Law

WoW Tammera…an incredible image..and the quotes too. Your work here is the second time today I have seen in words this concept of corporation as person so I’m thinking of the significance of that. Can I ask you about some of the symbolism? She is holding in each hand rings attached to hearts…is this saying the true person is heart-based and so she is grasping on to what she is, while the world tries to reduce her to merely body-pleasure glorification?
Excellent work of social and heart conscience.

  • THANK YOU SO VERY KINDLY KEN…
IN DOING THIS PIECE THE SYMBOLISM I HAD IN MIND WAS VERY VERY CLOSE TO WHAT YOU ARE SAYING…ONLY THING TO ADD IS THAT…
WHILST RISING IN THE CORPORATE WORLD WITH TODAY’S THE GREED FACTOR ONE BECOMES LESS HUMAN… IN THAT THEY MUST GIVE UP THEIR HEART AND HUMANNESS, BECOME A NUMBER AND LEAVE THE HEART IN LOCKDOWN (SYMBOLIZED BY THE DRONE AT THE BOTTOM OF THE STAIRS OR LADDER…SO TOO SPEAK)
….THE NAKEDNESS IS ALSO SYMBOLIC IN THAT ASPECT ALSO….THERE ARE SO MANY OTHER THINGS I COULD SAY…
CORPORATE AMERICA USED TO BE MORE FOR THE FAMILY, GOOD VALUES, MIDDLE CLASS WORKING ETHIC ETC…IN ADDITION TO MONEY
NOW IT IS A FEARLESS BEAST ON THE LOOK OUT AND PROWLING ONLY FOR MONEY…THE BOTTOM LINE IS NO LONGER SOCIETY OR HUMAN VALUES…BUT GREED AND CORRUPTION…
