Snapper by Richard Lee

This is a young snapping turtle looking for a good place to lay eggs, they will find a bog like area to lay in and stay there for days with just the head showing, this is a “species is at risk” in my part of Ontario Canada, reasons being that a lot of the habitat that they prefer to lay eggs requires crossing highways and they are no match for automobiles and drivers who don’t pay attention to the road, these turtles have been know to live upwards to 100+ years, the eggs are a favorite of the local racoon’s so this doesn’t help the population to much either.

Hi Thanks for looking, I am a work in progress and constantly work at improving my craft. I live in a small town along the St.Lawrence River which gives me many opportunities to explore nature at her best.
