Juvenile Heron

This is another shot of the Great Blue Heron that is living down the street from my house. The heron was sitting very near the bushes in the background so I had to use my limited Photoshop skills to make it blur. It’s taken me many hours to try to get the background blurred without losing detail along the edges of the Heron. This is the best I can do

Nikon D80
ISO 250
1/125 at f/5.6
55-200 lens
focal length 165mm

editing in photoshop and final tweaks in lightroom

Oh, isn’t he a beauty!!!!! You’ve got such wonderful color on the top of his bill and little bits of gold here and there in his feathers!!!! I’m wondering if ours have that!!!!! Glorious capture!!!! Hon, I think you did a super job of blurring your background!!! Turned out beautifully and it really sets the heron off to a T!!! Well done, you!!!!!

  • Tallow replied

thanks a lot Lois. It took a looooooong time to get that blurry background.
The gold in his feathers may have been accentuated just a little bit in lightroom :-)

Hey! Are you bragging or complaining? It’s a terrific shot!

  • Tallow replied

thanks Sheila. Being a photoshop amateur it took a loooong time to get that blurred background. If I only would have known I could see the Great Blue Heron’s at the Green Ribbon Trail every day of the week I never would have spent the time on this photo. I do think it turned out pretty good if I do say so myself :-)
