Rudston Monolith.
Besides the church the ancient Monolith stands over 25 foot in height, and was once possibly taller. It will have predated the church, possibly late Neolithic or Bronze age and would have been for some religious or ritual purpose.. The monolith stands in the church grounds at an East Yorkshire village called Rudston.
I timed my visit wrongly, I had to shoot towards the light and rely on hdr to bring out the details.

Lovely shot, the HDR has certainly recaptured the detail. What an unusual sight to see in a church yard!! Thanks for the info too :-)

A bit more info for you, there is supposed to be fossilised dinosaur footprints on one side, this is thought partly the reason for the ancients thinking it was special. You can imagine it was once part of a river bed where dinosaurs trod, when it dried out the footprints became fossilised. At the time of taking the photo I didn’t know this, otherwise I would have tried to photograph them :-)
