Shady Bridge and distant Hills.
As we drove back from Great Gable, we stopped off at this lovely old bridge… ok, I can’t remember it’s name :-) Thanks Rob, it’s Ashness Bridge.
The light wasn’t right, it would have been good to have the bridge in sunlight. As it is I’ve cropped some of the darker bottom part of the photo off, but the distant hills and sky have to be worthy of posting.

Alan, it’s worked up very nicely considering the difficult shady conditions. We’ll have to go back one morning :-) when the sun is in a better position.
It’s called Ashness bridge and the friendly giant in the background is Skiddaw a 3000 foot Lakeland giant. It’s a picture that has graced the front of countless magazines, buscuit tins and Kendal Mint Cake wrappers.
PS
Can I see a couple of spots of sensor dust (shudder) in the sky?
TallGuy replied
Cheers Rob,
you were right about the dust on the sensor, close examination I found four… all gone now, both from the photo and the camera :
)) Morning!!! another five o-clock start sometime.. groan.Great Idea stopping off here, even if the sudden change of direction was a bit abrupt.. testing my brakes :

great work, arguably the lack of light on the bridge tell us more about the location.

I hope you checked for trolls before you crossed this bridge – lol. I can certainly see why it is photographed often – extremely picturesque and you captured it well, despite the challenging conditions.
TallGuy replied
Kurt, the trolls were lining up behind me with their cameras…lol.

Trolls with cameras are definitely better than trolls with clubs asking for “donations”.

The film director Ken Russell wrote a wonderfully romatic passage about a walk up Skiddaw with he then new love. Utterly romantic and this shot illustrates that sense completely. Its one of the leveliest landscape shots I’ve seen in ages and it at least reveals to me why Ken Russell was so passionate about this area. Well done
