Wainstones.
I took this shot of the Cleveland (cliffland) Way footpath going steeply down through the crags of the Wainstones directly into the setting sun. One of many similar shots on my evening meet with Rob and Stu. It was a mistake, too many shots had lens flare on them, with a bit of work I managed to rescue this one. The main work was on the sun which was blown, but a touch of cloning from a similar shot ended in a reasonable result… including a nice pink cloud that wasn’t really there.
Taken on the edge of the North York Moors National Park.
Guess I’ll have to call it a work of art rather than a photo :-)

what fantastic colours and great photography

Great work, well rescued. Particularly like the colours and the way the sun comes through the rock and seeps along the ground beside it.

Yes a wonderful work of art … are the rocks really iridescent blue too?
I am going to have to just come look for myself huh?
Will you come have tea in Rob’s kitchen with me when I do eventually travel to the land of my ancestors [feel old? lol] .... & friends? [better? lol] Or don’t you guys do tea in each other’s kitchens??? :o)
We’ll have to just hang out in the pubs then :o) .... [both please :o)]
Chookas! :o)

The blue is more to do with the light and the long exposure on the rocks which have grey flecks in them… grey pyritic shale, I think :-).. a lot of alum mining was done in the area.
It’ll have to be coffee, Rob only does photography when the sunrises or sets… except for waterfalls if it’s dark and grey. So the coffee will help to keep me awake :-)
Ps. Goathland is in the middle of the North York Moors, a lovely little village…. beam in to it on Google Earth at…

Yes, it is a work of art! But you did start with a wonderful composition and image. Dont forget, the Lightroom is the digital photographers Darkroom! And you know what happens in a darkroom? Lots of dodging and burning and filters…........ ;-)

I totally agree, but there is plenty out there that don’t :
) Purists believe that the image should be untouched, but I believe the camera often lies. Overexposed skies and underexposed shadows, do you get that in real life… ok my photo’s are often processed to give the eye what it wants to see, but heck, that’s what I like :)Stewart Laker
Excellent shot Alan I love the way you have processed this shot
